Milapfest and LIJF presented a special collaboration between jazz pianist and composer Zoe Rahman, her brother Idris on clarinet and British Bengali vocalist Sohini Alam, marking 50 years since the independence of Bangladesh.

Alongside new arrangements of music by Nazrul and Tagore, the musicians also performed music from Zoe’s WHERE THE RIVERS MEET album, described by The Sunday Times as “a wholly original brand of Anglo-Asian music.”

This was a masterstroke by festival organisers. Alam added truckloads of emotion, love and sincerity with her voice and animated performance style while both Zoe and Idris exhibited instrumental skills of the highest order. Captivating, fresh and offering an exciting insight into Bengali music.
