The Jim Jones Revue ‘Here To Save Your Soul’ How do you like your rock? Hard, with soul and blues to spare? Real and raw? How about a Jerry Lee Lewis pumping-piano to spice things up a bit? An album with some of the best rock standards known to man? You do? Then look no further, because The Jim Jones Revue has it all, and then some… But for God’s sake get that oxygen cylinder ready before you put this mutha into your CD player, you’ll need it… ‘Rock N Roll Psychosis’ opens wih a rampant drum rhythm and a piano on a gallon of Red Bull, then the guitars enter and a screaming vocal that’s just heard over the intrumental explosion that never, ever stops. Glorious! ‘Big Hunk O’ Love’ is simply the best cover of the song I’ve heard with the main features being those hammered piano keys and Jones’s fabulous vocal. ‘Cement Mixer’ has a deathy, rebounding rhythm section and a blues vibe that has to be heard to be believed. It’s a killer track and the third standout in a row… Quick dose of oxy and I’m off again to jive to another classic in ‘Good Golly Miss Molly’ which is faultless. ‘Princess And The Frog’ an original song which cleverly follows the feel and sound of the previous track. ‘Freak Of Nature’ … Look I’m not going to waste meaningles words trying to describe one of the best trad rock records I’ve heard in years. Okay, just one more song then. ‘Burning Your House Down’ is a bluesy atomic blast of a song. Oh, and final track ‘Elemental’ is a heartstopping journey into hell. Punk rock is how this band is described but that’s a flawed summary. This is tradional hard rock, the way it should be played - loud, raw and with a rare passion. It deserves 5/5, but because it’s production is a little too dirty, it gets 4.5/5, which still makes it one of the best albums heard so far in 2010. 4.5/5
