Madina Lake Interview 2009 What’s the single? It’s ’Never Walk Alone’ is basically a summary of the whole record, and even the general point we wanted to make with it. Music is an escape for people, in my opinion, and it helps people identify with feelings - positive or negative kind of feelings - and at the end of the day, as long as there’s music you’re not alone. And as long as you connect to some sort of music or some kind of expression you never will be alone. And I think the whole record is about finding that way of looking at life, and that way of thinking about things to show that you are not in this alone and it’s everything’s gonna end up okay. The songs seem message-laden to me… ‘Never Take Us Alive’ for example… ‘Never Take Us Alive’ is the first track on the album and is song about perseverance and in the past couple of years we’ve dealt with a lot of ups and downs in our lives, both on tour and in our personal lives. ‘Never Take Us Alive’ is a kind of fight song in terms of people are always gonna try to keep you down, it may be a cliché, but at the end of the day nobody can effect you or touch you if you let them. And it’s a matter of how you psychologically think of things, and if you believe you will never been taken alive. And in the end you can fight to the end and do whatever you want to do, bring your destiny to life and all your dreams will come true. Tell me about tours… with Muse? Yeah, I would do anything in the world to tour alongside Muse for a full-blown tour. We’ve put together a bunch of shows oddly enough with Dillinger Escape Plan who are like my favourite band of all time, they’re amazing. We did tour with …., they were amazing. They were bands of that calibre, out of a genre that we found ourselves submerged in. We like to tour with bands we’re inspired by like Mars Volta. We put together a ‘good vibes’ tour featuring good friends from Chicago, Kill Hannah, who are just amazing dudes. We were really excited to come back to the UK as it’s been a long time since we did a proper tour here. All the money we’ve never made anyways we’re gonna spend on this thing, money we don’t even have yet, borrowed off future earnings… it’s gonna be amazing and it’s gonna be worth it… When you spend two and a half years on tour, then take a break for five months writing and recording, you feel like you stopped for ten years. For us to back on tour and to come to the UK where we’ve had a lot of luck and had a lot of support from some amazing people, it’s going to be the most exciting tour we’ve done to-date. We’re constantly trying to up our game with our live show, like we’re never complacent with it. This is going to be the first tour where we’re able to do a lot of our production and stuff we want to do but haven’t been able to do at festivals or co-headlining. It’s gonna be a lot of fun… Page: 1 2 |
