You guys have been quoted as saying that you are looking forward to seeing where this band takes you. It’s been just over a year since APRIL RAINS release, and already you are working on new material…

Charlotte - Well, we are still doing a lot of exciting stuff this year as well as writing. We are doing Wacken Festival later this year and going out to the USA for the first time, but it’s going to be good to see how we can make this next one bigger and better.
Martijn - We are still trying to decide which producer we want to work with for this, and we have finished the negotiations with Roadrunner for a next release, which is good. So now we are starting to plan what it is we want to do.
Charlotte - It’s good to take your time with these things, especially like choosing a producer who could potentially put like a big marker on your album, its important to get that right; someone who will work with you and get the best out of the band. I am quite curious to see how that’s going to work this time round.
Martijn - I know it’s clichéd, but it is true, every time you make something, the next time you make something you want to make it better than the last; your expectations and standards get higher and higher.
Charlotte - Sometimes it helps to just start afresh, some bands say that whatever worked last time, we are going to avoid doing this time and things like that - the one thing I guess you don’t want to do is repeat yourself.
Martijn - Yeah, plus we have more of a core now, I write and Charlotte writes, and we also have like a sixth band member, Eigens, who we write with, but I didn’t say that (laughs), but the three of us are the main creative minds in Delain.
Charlotte - The others have input too, and a lot of good input as well, and we are hoping this continues for the next album.
Martijn - We are always open to suggestion, every idea is welcome, but we manage the end product and make sure that we want comes out.

Having worked with so many of the European scene’s big names already, and having featured Marko of Nightwish on your current release, is there anyone you would like to work with on the next one?

Charlotte - Let’s not say (laughs)
Martijn - We always have a kind of wish-list of people we would love to work with, but it changes a lot. Sometimes we take people off the list and sometimes we add new guys or girls (smiles). It’s always evolving and changing with us, we might not even add anyone else this time.
Charlotte - I think for this album we only want to use the top two or three on our list and then if we can’t get them then perhaps we won’t use anyone…
