The Slow Readers Club Live ShadowParty Members Denise Johnson - keyboards, vocals The only support band should have really have majored with the sellout and excited audience in front of them. But their sound management badly let them down. Not a single lyric could be heard which was a real shame because just behind the foggy sound I managed to discover some striking melodies including a song called ‘Present Tense’ sung by the female soloist (and backing singer) and trhe band’s final song ‘Celebrate’. The band released their debut EP last year which was on sale on the merch stand but at £10 for an EP it was a tad rich for me… That said I will try to secure it if for no other reason than to actually hear all of the songs from their setlist. Disappointed, but hopeful. Setlist Taking Over Biography Bringing the sounds of synth pop and new wave into the 21st century, supergroup ShadowParty use pedigree to their advantage by featuring members of New Order and Devo, as well as contributors from Primal Scream and the Verve. The band formed in the late 2010s after New Order bassist Tom Chapman connected with Devo guitarist Josh Hager. The pair recruited bandmates Phil Cunningham (New Order guitarist) and Jeff Friedl (Devo drummer) to round out the core quartet. Influenced by the sounds of their own bands, as well as Kraftwerk, Joy Division, and ’80s punk and electro, ShadowParty recorded their self-titled debut with guest musicians Denise Johnson (Primal Scream) and Nick McCabe (the Verve) in Boston, Los Angeles, and Manchester, England. ShadowParty arrived in 2018 on Mute and featured singles “Present Tense” and “Celebrate.” Page: 1 2 |
