SISTERWORLD IS OUT 8th MARCH 2010

A SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES THOM YORKE, MELVINS, TUNDE ADEBIMPE, ALAN VEGA, CHRIS & COSEY

Liars have announced details of an expanded edition of their eagerly awaited fifth studio album, SISTERWORLD, out on 8th March 2010. This version comes with a second CD of remixes and reinterpretations of all 11 tracks on SISTERWORLD from artists including Thom Yorke, Tunde Adebimpe (TV On The Radio), Bradford Cox (Deerhunter/ Atlas Sound), Melvins, Alan Vega (Suicide), Chris & Cosey (Throbbing Gristle) and Blonde Redhead. Full tracklisting to follow in the coming weeks.

Says Angus Andrew, “On this project we wanted to help develop and expand the role of the remix, particularly to engage artists less acknowledged for their work in the field. They were asked to ‘re-interpret’ the song by any means necessary and the result is definitely the most exciting collaborative effort we’ve been involved in.”

Liars - Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross - return in 2010 with their boldest and most exhilarating record to date. SISTERWORLD was written and recorded in Los Angeles by Liars and Tom Biller and is an invigorating summation of their career so far. Building on the back-to-basics approach employed by previous album, Liars (2007), it’s dense art-pop from start to finish.

SISTERWORLD is Liars’ own space, completely devoid of influence, somewhere remote from the false promises and discarded dreams amassed in LA. In it Liars explore the underground support systems created to deal with loss of self to society.

It’s taken 5 albums for the Liars to eventually deliver something worthy of the band, and able to compete with the proliferation of good albums and indie bands on both sides of the pond. SISTERWORLD is an extraordinarily good record that reeks of adventure, distinction and menace, starting with the first track and single ‘Scissor.’ The song starts in very slow, low gear as though climbing to the top of a rollercoaster, before rushing headlong down the other side with an explosive, synth-led chorus - a thrill ride if ever there was one. ‘No Barrier Fun’ is like a lumbering, relentless ice-road truck struggling through an ice storm, and is deathly dark. ‘Here Comes All The People’ lightens the atmosphere somewhat and is dominated by jangling lead guitar and earth-shaking bass. ‘Drip’ is pitch black industrial rock by comparison, with only the high key vocals offering any respite.

‘Scarecrows On A Killer Slant’ ups tempo in a punk style song that features blanket guitar sounds, screaming choruses and an ocean-deep bass, bone-shaking rhythm. This is an uncompromising album standout underpinned by a strong melody. Things lighten dramatically with the dreamlike ‘I Still Can See An Outside World’ with, once again, instruments playing a starring role. ‘Proud Evolution’ opens with electronic loops and other unworldly sounds travelling at glacial pace. A distant synth and backing vocals shed a thin shaft of light on this highly adventurous and satanically dark tune. Two songs later and ‘The Overachievers’ thunders in with a bouncing and much lighter vibe, a monster of a melody and a dance beat of Everest proportions. It’s another punk standout and potential single.

‘Goodnight Everything’ is another brilliant track that defies description because it’s so different. ‘Too Much, Too Soon’ concludes the album in wandering mode with synth, guitars and vocals revolving like a fairground carrousel centred on a monotone, unrelenting hammond rhythm.

This is an album that pulls few punches, and when it occasionally does out pops an exhilarating, chart-busting single. The Liars have landed, big-time.
