COLOURS OF ONE Debut Mini LP INCENDIARY YOUNG WELSH ROCK BAND’S ‘BAD NEWS MAKES BIG NOISE’ ADDICTIVE DEBUT MINI-ALBUM RELEASED MAY 17TH*** There must be some special magic musical ingredient that’s been injected into the water in the area of South Wales that has lately brought us the likes of Bullet For My Valentine, Funeral For a Friend, LostProphets, Kids in Glass Houses and now Colours Of One.
‘Bad News Makes Big Noise’, Colours Of One’s upcoming 7 track (including intro) mini-album, released May 17th on Rogues Gallery Records distributed by Cargo, is an accomplished debut. Strangely familiar yet subtly, seductively different, every lovingly crafted track on ‘Bad News Makes Big Noise’ oozes melody and basic downright brilliant organic songwriting talent. While influenced by the likes of Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Coheed and Cambria, Incubus, Paramore, and Kings Of Leon, Colours Of One’s big, anthemic rock sound is all their very own. Colours of One, who comprise vocalist Mike Simmonds, guitarists Miff Tuck and Rhys Hart, bassist Chris Dower and drummer Paul Jones, formed in January 2008 in Bridgend, and have already built up an impressive following in an area well accustomed to astoundingly good newcomers. Taking their destiny into their own hands - rather than chasing round looking for a deal - Colours Of One set up their own record label, Rogues Gallery Records, and recorded ‘Bad News Makes Big Noise’ in the latter part of 2009. ** Shake Verdict: What you actually get on this ‘Mini Album’ is something quite unique, and they are as different from the rest of their southern Welsh rock peers as the Manics were from the Furries. Sure, they have strong melodies and deep groove drums that have shredding guitar riffs wrapped around them, but they bring something brand new to the table - an almost American-English vibe that blends all the great elements of GREAT rock bands and then add the ability to make it sound all so brand new. It’s testament to them that had I not known I would have thought they were not ‘British’ because they sound too good. The songs sound awesome through a big club PA while you are getting wasted, they sound great on the radio (R.L.D./Halos) and also fabulous while driving fast down the M53 in your car (that might just be me…). But either way, Colours Of One certainly deliver on all levels with this release, we love it and so should you… 5/5 Jj: 2010
