Best Album Releases May/June Faithless: DANCE The band is back with a vengeance. Diverse sounds, moods and pace; meaningful lyrics, expressive vocals, superb production - one of the best dance records in 2010. The Divine Comedy: BANG GOES THE KNIGHTHOOD A great follow-up to Regeneration, albeit with a lighter pop touch, and a distinctly theatrical feel. Arguably Hanon’s best lyrical work to-date. Moving, fun and hugely melodic. Pendulum: IMMERSION The band has pulled out the creative stops on this rock/dance record and come up trumps. Imaginative use of instruments, electronics and vocals; driving bass-lines, monster melodies and a conceptual feel. Unkle: WHERE DID THE NIGHT FALL Unkle guys have set the bar high for themselves. This record starts to work well only after midway point when it verges on mastery. But it’s a close recommendation call - too close. The National: HIGH VIOLET This album seems produced for a mass audience, without some of the intimacy and high emotion of previous songs like ‘About Today.’ But the quality song-writing survives and this album sounds better with each listen. |
