Jamie Cullum: Orleans Jazz!

jamie

The successful jazzman Jamie Cullum is coming this summer to Orleans, in France, for Orleans’ Jazz. The old town of Orleans is really proud to welcome such an artist for the 19th edition of its jazz festival. During the few days of this event, jazz is all over the city. Each pub, each place, each street is “jazzing” with artists coming from everywhere. Some are local artists, some are national players and singers, some are worldwide famous, and some are…Jamie Cullum!

With 4 millions albums sold, a Grammy, BRIT, and 2 golden globe nominations, Jamie Cullum is currently one of the most famous jazzman around the globe. In 2003, “Twentysomething”, Jamie’s first major label album was sold at more than 2.5 millions copies over the world. This made it the fastest selling jazz album in UK history and Jamie the highest selling UK jazz artist ever!

The success story went on. After his nomination for a Grammy award, he started a two year tour over the planet to spread his music everywhere. In 2005, his new album “Catching Tales”, enhanced with all the experiences and new music he encountered on his trips, was sold at 4 millions copies. It seems that nothing can stop the English jazz prodigy who played all over the world: Japan, Spain, Hong Kong, Sao Paulo… He even performed a private show for Queen Elizabeth II and the British royal family.

Jamie Cullum has also wrote and performed music for movies such as Bridget Jones II, The Edge of Reason and Meet the Robinson’s. In 2008, he wrote and recorded the Golden Globe nominated movie theme song to Clint Eastwood’s new film Gran Torino.

Only one hour from Paris, Orleans is a beautiful town on a river called “la Loire”. With its old streets, its majestic cathedral and its places full of history, it is a relaxing oasis of peace, especially during the summer.

Meanwhile, Orleans’ Jazz is becoming an important jazz festival in France. Last year, Herbie Hancock, Keziah Jones or Archie Shepp were performing on stage during the festival. And this year, Jamie Cullum will be the guest of honor, playing in Orleans for one of the very few performances he is doing in France this year.

To begin a nice summer, start with Jamie Cullum at Orleans, the 25th of June. For 23 euros, you will get the chance to see this gifted jazz artist on stage in a beautiful city at the edge of “la Loire”. A great moment is in prospect.
