The Enemy: 02 Academy Liverpool 2009 BUT before any of that they have gone on the road to all the ‘regional’ towns and cities to ensure that they don’t lose touch with the very people who put them where they are today, so we head of to Liverpool to find out what the fuss is all about… It’s funny how you go to gigs and often forget the ‘bits in-between’ because they are usually so ‘forgettable’ so it’s amazing to be writing this review for the first time ‘EVER’ with the emotion of coming back from a gig and remembering every single piece… I shall explain… As we entered the 02 in Liverpool the sound of ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’ by The Who reverberated around the hall, so what a great start to any night. Then Kid British hit out with their ‘Modern Pop meets the Specials in a retro indie dance twist stylie’ which was just great, then we get the ‘BLACK ICE’ album by AC/DC blasted for a while… Next up is Twisted Wheel with their ‘Oasis meets the Fall idiosyncratic indie twist of the knife with angry sounds’ and they just set the scene for a riotous romp. They depart and then we get the songs (in the below order) which just take the crowd up beyond mere customers but to a place where they realise that the Enemy are them and they are the Enemy. The song list is like a showcase to show you where the Enemy have come from and what built them in the past to create their future, for this was like listening to an ‘under the influence’ i-pod shuffle version of the soundtrack to your (their) life… The Song List (in order) Kelly’s Heroes - Black Grape, White Riot - The Clash, My Sharona - The Knack, Borstal Breakout - Sham 69, Rocks - Primal Scream, Common People - Pulp, and then the final song before the band took to the stage Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve… |
