Volbeat: Beyond / Above: Live DANISH ROCKERS STUDIO ALBUM ‘BEYOND HEAVEN / ABOVE HELL’ RELEASE VIA SPINEFARM RECORDS… UK Tour oct 11… These Danes are fast gaining a reputation as one of the world’s great rock acts, and now – at long last – they have finally confirmed their first ever UK tour for October 2011. The band, whose latest studio album ‘Beyond Hell/Above Heaven’ (Spinefarm) has taken them to the forefront of the international hard rock scene. They were due to play the UK at the back end of last year, but due to frontman Michael Poulsen falling ill, the dates were unable to go ahead. The tour has not just been rescheduled but moved up in venue size. The latest/third UK single from ‘Beyond Hell…’ has just been released; titled ’16 Dollars’ and featuring Jakob Oelund on guest double bass, is available as both a digital download and a limited edition 7” pic disc, available exclusively from www.whatrecords.co.uk
VOLBEAT, the Danish quartet whose latest ‘Beyond Hell/Above Heaven’ album has taken them to arena status in Europe stated: “As you may or may not be aware, Volbeat had to cancel the first five shows of their UK tour… “After the completion of the mainland European shows, Michael was suffering from exhaustion and has had to undergo various tests at hospital. ”We were anticipating the tour going ahead from Dec 1st; however, it has now become apparent that this is not going to be viable, and we are going to have to cancel all the UK dates forthwith.” The band made a much-lauded appearance at the Download Festival in Castle Donington, their second showing at this prestigious UK event; they have also shared European stages with the likes of Metallica, AC/DC & Rammstein, showcasing a signature style that that draws equal inspiration from Johnny Cash, Social Distortion & Metallica (!), with tattooed singer/guitarist Michael Poulsen unafraid to show the full breadth of his musical vision. Prior to these shows, Volbeat released their fourth studio outing since first coming together back in 2001; titled ‘Beyond Heaven / Above Hell’ and overseen by regular producer Jacob Hansen, the album – their first for Spinefarm Records UK – is set to be the band’s most varied effort to date, with all aspects of the well-honed Volbeat sound being pushed to new & exciting levels; in other words, more melody, more atmosphere and definitely more power, with the heavier songs – supported by a number of surprise guest appearances – showing that Poulsen & Co. are true (dark) masters of The Riff. ‘A Warrior’s Call’ a song recorded by the band as a tribute to Danish boxer Mikkel Kessler (who also features on the track), is now confirmed to appear on the album, the record sees the band returning to a story started on previous outing ‘Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood’ (2008). This new album, the group’s fourth since starting out in 2001. http://www.myspace.com/volbeat | http://volbeat.dk
