SONISPHERE Festival was established in 2009 and received the award “Best New Festival’ at the 2009 UK Festival Awards. That year the festival visited six different European countries, taking in Holland, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Finland and England, making it the world’s largest internationally touring festival. 2010 saw SONISPHERE make metal history by bringing metal’s BIG 4 - Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax - together for the first time, and taking yet more awards, with Festival promoters Kilimanjaro Live and K2 awarded European Promoter Of The Year at the 2010 European Festival Awards, the Finnish event receiving the Best Festival In Finland Summer 2010 in one of the country’s biggest newspapers, Ilta Sanomat, plus a shortlisting at the Digital Music Awards for the live cinecast of the Bulgarian SONISPHERE. It also sold its millionth ticket as a festival in 2010, an impressive milestone for such a young festival.

2011 saw the biggest year yet for the UK event at KNEBWORTH, with 60,000 people each day flocking to witness headline boasting headline sets from The BIG 4, BIFFY CLYRO and SLIPKNOT, securing the “Best Line Up” honour at the UK Festival Awards.
