FAQs

Thinking of applying for Guitar Star? Be sure to have a good read of these FAQs, as well as the Terms and Conditions, before you fill out the Application Form.

Can I apply if I play the Banjo/Ukulele/Lute/Bass Guitar?

The competition is open to players of all types guitars, acoustic or electric, with the exception of bass guitars. It is not open to players of other stringed instruments such as ukulele, banjo, lutes, etc.

Can I apply if I play Classical Guitar?

Yes, you can.

Can I play my own compositions on my Application Video?

Yes, if you want to.

Can I sing and play guitar?

Your main Application Video should just show you playing the guitar, but you can provide links to other videos of you playing the guitar while singing.

Can I apply if I’m in a band?

Yes, but you will only be considered and judged as a solo guitarist.

How will I be assessed?

The Judges will assess guitarists on a range of their abilities including technical ability, being able to play tunes, but also solo, imagination and innovation, artistry and performance style. We know that different genres and styles of playing require different skills and disciplines, and the judging process will take this in to account.

Can I apply if I am not from the UK or Republic of Ireland?

Yes, as long as you have the right to reside in the UK or Republic of Ireland. You will be asked to provide documentation to substantiate this.

Can I apply if I am under 18?

Yes, you will need your parent(s) or legal guardian to approve your application for the series, and they will need to accompany you at all stages of the competition.

Can I apply if I’m a professional guitarist?

Yes, providing you are not signed exclusively to a record label or publishing company.

I have a recording contract/publishing contract but it’s not an exclusive agreement, can I still apply?

We would need to see the terms of your contract in order to confirm your participation in the competition. You will not be considered if you have an exclusive agreement.

When does the entry process close?

The entry process closes at 9am on Tuesday 31st March 2015.

My application was late, will you still consider me?

We have limited slots for auditions so if your application arrives after the deadline we may not be able to accept it. If you want to guarantee that your application will be viewed you must apply before the deadline.

When will I be notified if I’ve been successful?

If you have not been contacted by Friday 3rd April 2015 you have not made it through to the audition stage. Please note that due to the anticipated high volume of applications, unsuccessful applicants will not be contacted.

I’m having problems using the application form.
