For ‘Kaz’ – judo expert, one-time rapper and former Juno Best New Artist Winner – the project (named after his father’s vintage Plymouth Barracuda) was the perfect vehicle for his vast array of songs, mixing rock & hip hop influences to telling effect, and it wasn’t long before RK was showing real signs of success; these included an appearance on the prestigious Tonight Show, hosted by Jay Leno, plus well in excess of 100,000 sales for the ‘Old Man’ single. ‘Kaz’ & Redlight King are currently on the road in the US, playing headline shows prior to joining the line-up for the Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival in August & September. Customer Comment: Redlight King wanted to sample Neil Young for their single “Old Man”. Mr. Young’s management said no but the man himself, upon hearing the song, said yes. Neil Young was quite right. Redlight King have released an utterly amazing album that perfectly blends the worlds of rap, pop and rock into an effortlessly catchy, emotionally deep and expertly-crafted contender for album of the year. Sound-wise, I would say it’s a combination of early Linkin Park’s anthemic melodies and wall-of-distortion sounds and The Gaslight Anthem’s down-and-out bluesy poetry and rough-edged vocals. All of the tracks are good, but particular stand-outs include the life-affirming Comeback, the summery single Old Man or the beefy riff-driven Bullet in My Hand. It’s a great album from start to finish that begs to be listened to on a blisteringly hot day with plenty of chilled beer to hand. It is literally impossible to listen to this gem without nodding your head in time with the infectious, intelligent beats. If there was justice in the music industry, this would sell millions of copies. All I can say is if you want a complex and intelligent pop album with fantastic melodies and plenty of emotional power, stop reading and buy “Something For the Pain” now - Jonny Check out Redlight King’s video for latest single ‘Bullet In My Hand’ here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1KL5U-fyMc
