WHERE IS TRUTH AND JUDGEMENT?

I’m getting to the point when I am reluctant to turn on TV and radio news programmes for fear of hearing yet another Trump or Vance or Musk diatribe, laced liberally with damaging lies and total disregard for integrity, honesty and humanity.

America, What Have You Done…

I still cannot believe that American voters, so convincingly, elevated proven criminals and deceivers to the highest USA and world governing positions. My worst fears have been realised: blackmail, bullying, disregard for the rules-based world order, ignorance, and much more. And it took less than a single day for my worst fears to be realised.

How Volodymyr Zelonskyy must be regretting not providing evidence to the impeachment process that Trump attempted to blackmail Ukraine over Hunter Biden and if he wasn’t investigated by Ukrainian authorities that financial support would cease. I can fully understand why Zelonskyy failed to corroborate due to the major threat from Putin in 2014 but the lesson here is one must not bend to tyrants. If he had confirmed the USA president’s actions (that Trump’s own staff confirmed), then Trump could not have been elected in 2024…

“We’re On A Road To Nowhere…”

Trump is only interested in two things: Winning and Profit. He falsely declared that millions had been killed in Ukraine and feel’s the only way to win and halt the war is to side suspiciously strongly with Putin who he views as the victim, not the oppressor. What does Putin have on Trump that is potentially highly threatening to him? Was the report compiled by a former British intelligence officer true where it was described that Putin had arranged for uncompromising filming of Trump during a Miss World Contest in Moscow? Is there some financial arrangement between Russia and Trump that could prove difficult? Or it just that Trump wants the USA and world to see him winning - at any cost?

In trying to blackmail Ukraine into accepting a minerals deal he is effectively attempting to rob the country of vital resources needed to help heal the country’s substantial financial, infrastructure and social wounds. This is a president turned thief, no doubt encouraged by his closest ally Elon Musk in a doomed endeavour to recover some of the money spent on defending Ukraine. It is beyond belief.

Trump’s Lies

Trump’s continued claim that Ukraine started the war and that Zelonskyy is a dictator represents a diametric shift in USA attitude towards the conflict, and are complete fabrications. Suddenly, Putin is the ‘good guy’ and Zelonskyy is the bad guy. Thankfully, most other major international supporters know the truth, while beginning to witness their worst Trump concerns become reality. Trump should also remember (which of course he will not) that the EU has provided substantial support while taking in over 6 million Ukrainians who had to leave their ravaged homeland. How many did the USA take in? For whatever reason Putin has Trump over a barrel because his demands for territory and that Ukraine must not join NATO are being mirrored by Trump in the desperate quest to win - at any cost to Ukraine and world peace.

Putin will not accept a peace-keeping force from NATO members (or Ukraine joining NATO) because he knows any harm done to them by Russia will have consequences - an attack on a NATO member is an attack on all members. Think back to a few years ago during the peak of the Syrian crisis. A Russian fighter jet ventured into Turkish airspace. The Russian jet was destroyed by Turkey. Putin’ response was to befriend Turkey’s leader. Fighting fire with fire is the only thing that Putin and Trump understand.

It is true that Europe needs to upgrade its defensive and offensive capabilities substantially not least because the next few years will see the USA pulling away to a large degree. It is also becoming clear that America’s contribution to Ukraine’s security will disappear, with Europe and other NATO members filling the vacuum. And because Putin cannot be trusted the only realistic answer for Ukraine is to join NATO, nothing else will work.
