Sonic Syndicate ‘Love And Other Disasters’
And by knock, I mean sonically remove it from the latch and throw it so hard that failure to take notice could result is some form of limb loss. Album opener “Encaged”, whilst placed firmly in the vein of label mates Soilwork, Mnemic, and In Flames, to name but a few, is a fresh take on what some argue is a tired art form, pounding 4 to the floor metal riffs and child scaring screams, give way to beautifully harmonised choruses, and instantly classic riffery. “Hellgate” and live anthem “Jack of Diamonds” continue this impressive line of aural battery, whilst retaining their grip and individualistic metal style. Ballad “My escape” shows the band in more mature form, with a well arranged take on the power metal styling’s of their peers. The most impressive aspect to this release is a DVD showcasing the bands live prowess is admittedly low budget, and a mildly comedic of first videos, but do portray a band who genuinely love what they do. It is the addition of the new single “Burn This City” and extra track “Rebellion In Nightmare Land” that show off the vocal talents of new addition Nathan J Biggs, the fierce musicianship, and deep understanding this band have for writing successfully. These are fantastically crafted songs, instantly recognizable, and clearly paving the way for next years potential release. It’s heavy when you want it, it’s melodic when you need a break, its angry, violent, but mature enough to know how to dispose of the body afterwards. It’s Sonic Syndicate, go get it… 4/5 Ade Perrie
