Chester Rocked in 2011 Babylon Leaf are unsigned and back at the Alternative venue in front of a large crowd this 5-piece’s indie rock impressed greatly. But there was a problem. As far as I could see none of the bands that appeared ocver the two days had any recorded to sell or give away. That folks is criminal. This particular band gave away an album to a child who no doubt will write and publish a review - NOT! I could have asked but in the end I thought ‘why bother, if they can’t’. And that is a crying shame since there would some good acts which were specially selected to appear by the organisers. I’ve seen Iggy And The Stooges several times and each time I’ve left with a smile on my face. This set was no exception. Opening with ‘Raw Power’ it was a manic and super-expressive Iggy from the first note backed of course by his superb band. ‘Shake Appeal’ signalled the usual audience on-stage participation while later in the show he visited the pit on two occasions. What struck me most was at over 64 years of age the guy still possesses the enthusiasm and energy that much younger performers would die for. All the other great songs were there: ‘Search And Destroy’, ‘Gimme Danger’, ‘Need Somebody’, ‘1970′, ‘Fun House’, ‘L.A. Blues’, ‘Night Theme’, ‘Skull Thing’, ‘Beyond The Law’, ‘Cock In My Pocket’, ‘Open Up And Bleed’, ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog’ plus the inevitable encore. In little less than one hour he had rushed through this repertoire and still found time to get physical with his audience. Just incredible. I return to the Alternative venue to see a reasonable 5-piece band called the Suns, grab a Cheshire Farms real cream, double-scoop cornet and return to the main stage. |
