Chester Rocked in 2011 Eliza Doolittle and her band were next on the mian stage. Eliza is responsible for my most annoying song of the year although I have to admit that the video showing a neat set of pins represented small compensation. Eliza has a decent voice as the popular hits rung out, and she seemed more than comfortable talking and performing to a large crowd. Problem was the hit songs ran out and were replaced by cover versions whose arrangement and performances were below par. Still, she gave value for buck and the audience loved her providing the first singalong of the day. Then it was back to the Dawsons Alternative Unsigned venue and what seemed like a co-operative band including three fiddles. The Kevin Critchley Outfit instrumentally were very interesting but after hearing the vocal reckoned they would be better as an instrumental band… It’s Saturday and so next up it had to be The Saturdays. The group were formed in 2006 and consists of five members, which are Frankie Sandford, Vanessa White, Una Healy, Mollie King and Rochelle Wiseman. As of September 2010, the band have sold roughly over 2.5 million records in the UK alone helped by massive airplay and press coverage. I noticed the same instrumental band return to the stage after backing both the Sugarbabes and providing a very similar rocky opening salvo before the girls trotted out their radio-friendly song hits. The group were well-rehearsed in both movement and vocals - they sounded good (not great) and am pretty sure they were not miming. Back to the Dawsons Alternative Unsigned venue for five-piece Four Floors Up sporting another female lead singer. I was not inspired but the next band, Shy And The Fight did impress with their indie-rock tunes and excellent performances. |
