Black Keys & Walkmen Live The Black Keys is an American blues-rock music duo consisting of vocalist/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer/producer Patrick Carney. The band was formed in Akron, Ohio in 2001. As of October 2010, and has sold over 1.7 million records. Of Black Keys albums the latest is by far the most appealing to me and I was hoping that the night’s live performance would put some’ meat on the bones’ so that I could understand the band’s apparent popularity. The stage set-up was weird with the duo placed just about as far apart as they could be and during the first part of the set they only came together fleetingly. That bothered me because they seemed to play as individuals rather than a band… The poor acoustic quality of the venue didn’t help the duo either with vocals virtually undecipherable. Things got better towards the end of the set (especially with the performance of my album favourite ‘Howlin’For You’) but I also felt that the audience wasn’t the happiest. I can summarise this quite simply: the album sounds much better than this live performance.
