Martha Wainwright’s New LP Nowness has premiered the video to ‘Proserpina’, the first song to be taken from Martha Wainwright’s upcoming album, Come Home To Mama, released on 15th October on V2. The single will be released digitally on Monday 3rd September. Click the image or link below to watch… http://www.nowness.com/day/2012/8/30?ecid=soc1269 Martha Wainwright’s soaring yet delicate harmonies take center stage in her performance of elegy ‘Proserpina,’ written by her late mother, the legendary folk singer Kate McGarrigle, in filmmaker Matthu Placek’s intimate video. Taken from her forthcoming album Come Home To Mama, the track was recorded in Sean Lennon’s New York home studio and continues a lifelong musical dialogue between Wainwright and McGarrigle, who passed away in 2010. “It’s the last song my mother wrote, and of course I also think that she wrote it for me, and for Rufus,” explains Wainwright, referring to her critically acclaimed crooner brother, Rufus Wainwright. “We wrote songs together, ever since we were children. As we sing her songs, I think her voice can be heard in ours, literally through our pipes.” Placek’s single-take film was inspired by the premise of “Proserpina,” which recounts the story of the creation of the seasons by the Roman goddess Ceres, who withholds the world’s bounty for six months every year in protest about her daughter’s abduction by Pluto, lord of the underworld. “It’s all about Martha’s performance,” says the director, who has also produced music videos for Trixie Whitley and Hannah Cohen. “Martha’s vocal range is insane, it’s outrageous - I’ve never seen anyone like her.” Produced by Yuka C Honda, and written by Martha Wainwright, Come Home To Mama (V2) is an emotional rollercoaster that dazzles throughout. Recorded earlier this year in New York City, mostly at Sean Lennon’s home studio, ‘Come Home To Mama’ has the passionate angst of her 2005 debut coupled with the twisted pop of 2008’s ‘I Know You’re Married But I’ve Got Feelings Too’. In the past, Martha worked with husband Brad Albetta but this time out chose Yuka C. Honda (Cibo Matto) to add a feminine touch. Her husband, Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, provides the musical thread throughout this captivating disc. Guest musicians include Thomas Bartlett, keyboards; Brad Albetta, bass and drummer Jim White. “Making this record was a totally different experience,” Martha says. “Yuka’s approach was very open. Sometimes I would just demo the song, singing in the closet which served as the vocal booth, then she would build the track around that. In other instances we would jam with a few musicians and try to get a live take. “This record is a culmination of my life experiences so far. Everything changed for me a couple years ago and this record is a representation of that and a return to the reason I started writing songs,” she adds. “I can’t wait to hit the road with my family and new band in tow.” Full tracklisting for Come Home To Mama I Am Sorry

Jeff Lynne RETURNS! JEFF LYNNE RETURNS OCTOBER 8th WITH TWO ALBUMS: “It all comes down to what you truly love doing, and what I love doing is overdubbing and making new sounds out of things that are sometimes quite ordinary on their own, but when you put them together, they make something new - or something that sounds new. Just discovering things like that musically is a pleasure.” - JEFF LYNNE, 2012 JEFF LYNNE, one of rock’s most iconic figures, is returning to make some new waves and shed a little electric light. The creative force of ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA and the singularly accomplished singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer will release two albums on October 8th via Frontiers Records: the solo disc LONG WAVE, a heartfelt and vivid tribute to some of the very songs that originally inspired him, and MR. BLUE SKY-THE VERY BEST OF ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA. For the latter album, the British artist has artfully revisited and re-recorded - at his home studio in Los Angeles - the greatest hits of Electric Light Orchestra, actually improving on some of the most classic and beloved recordings ever. The release of LONG WAVE and MR. BLUE SKY-THE VERY BEST OF ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA mark the 40th anniversary of ELO. LYNNE’s legacy will further be celebrated with releases in 2013 including ELO Live! plus expanded reissues of the ELO’s 2001 album Zoom and LYNNE’s first solo album in 1990, Armchair Theater. For up to date info on all things JEFF LYNNE and ELO, go here: www.elo.biz <http://www.elo.biz> LONG WAVE powerfully celebrates the music of a time when LYNNE’s lifelong passion for music began, evoking an era back when old standards were just giving way to rock & roll. He somehow makes pre-rock standards like ‘Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered,’ ‘Smile’ and ‘Love Is A Many Splendored Many Thing’ - along with a few of his favorite gems from the Sixties such as the first single ‘Mercy, Mercy,’ ‘Let It Rock’ and ‘So Sad ‘- his own with these loving versions. LYNNE’s deeply felt and musically brilliant one-man-band takes add up to an inspired love letter to music itself - and an exquisite reflection of the way songs grace and change our lives.
MR. BLUE SKY-THE VERY BEST OF ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA is a powerful testament to LYNNE’s enduring artistry and his singular desire to get things right once and for all. Featuring such classics as ‘Evil Woman’, ‘Don’t Bring Me Down,’ ‘Livin’ Thing’ and ‘Mr, Blue Sky,’ the result is, in effect, a kind of showdown between JEFF LYNNE today and his extremely illustrious past, and thanks to improved technology and recording artistry, LYNNE somehow comes out on top again. It’s a fresh chance to hear these extraordinary songs sounding sharper and clearer than the old versions. “There was a big reason I wanted to re-record these ELO songs,” says LYNNE. “When I listen to the old versions they don’t sound the way I thought they did when I first wrote and recorded them. I wanted to use the experience I’ve gained producing records ever since and have a completely new try at them. I’m not saying the old versions aren’t good; I like them very much. We were doing our best, but experience and technology also play a big a big part, and these new ones sound much more solid and tight.” The album includes a never-before-heard bonus track, ‘The Point Of No Return,’ and a very special version of ‘10538 Overture’ that’s a nod to ELO’s 40th anniversary. The songs that JEFF LYNNE wrote and sang - and the recordings that he so expertly arranged and produced for ELO - have endured beautifully and are perhaps even more beloved today than they were back in the Seventies and Eighties. By any standard whatsoever, ELO is one of the most remarkable success stories in rock history. Consider just the facts: ELO has sold over 50 million records worldwide, and continues to be a remarkably popular catalogue. Between 1972 and 1986, LYNNE wrote and produced 26 Top Forty hits in the United Kingdom, and 20 Top Forty hits in the United States, including 20 Top Twenty smashes in the UK and 15 Top Twenty smashes in the U.S.
Outside of the success of ELO, LYNNE has led a remarkable career that has found him taking the lessons learned leading ELO and using them to help produce and collaborate with many of the greatest musical artists of all time, including a number of LYNNE’s all-time heroes including Roy Orbison, Del Shannon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and remarkably, even the Beatles themselves, as well as contemporaries like Tom Petty and Joe Walsh, whose new album Analog Man LYNNE recently helped produce. Together with Harrison, Orbison, Petty and Bob Dylan, LYNNE was, of course, a member of the Grammy award-winning Traveling Wilburys - a super group like no other. “I’ve been in love with music since I was probably just five years old,” says LYNNE. I was made for music then–and I still am today.” Here are the tracklistings for LONG WAVE and MR. BLUE SKY-THE VERY BEST OF ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA: LONG WAVE MR. Coheed & Cambria New LPs ANNOUNCE UPCOMING DOUBLE CONCEPT ALBUM “THE AFTERMAN”, WITH SPLIT RELEASE FIRST INSTALLMENT, ‘THE AFTERMAN: ASCENSION’ TO BE RELEASED OCTOBER 8th via V2/Everything Evil CINEMATIC ALBUM TRAILER LAUNCHED ON COHEEDANDCAMBRIA.COM & UK TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT Modern progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria’s upcoming sixth studio album will be a double concept album entitled “The Afterman”, which will be released in two separate full-length volumes. The band made the announcement today via a cinematic video trailer on their official website. Watch the trailer here: The first volume, ‘The Afterman: Ascension,’ will be available on both physical and digital platforms October 8, 2012 via V2 Recordings/Everything Evil and the second volume, ‘The Afterman: Descension’ is slated for release in February 2013. The trailer, a 90-second black and white classic film-noir style short, from director Robert Schober, depicts a cosmonaut preparing to leave his spaceship for a journey into a mysterious unknown; over an instrumental Coheed and Cambria musical bed. Watch the visual now at www.coheedandcambria.com The band also confirmed a handful of intimate U.S. club shows leading up to the release of ‘Afterman’, with a UK tour in November of this year which follows Coheed and Cambria’s Main Stage performances at Reading and Leeds 2012. A deluxe version of the ‘Afterman’ will include a hardcover coffee-table book with expansive art by Heidi Taillefer and Nathan Spoor with collaborative written work from singer/creator Claudio Sanchez and writer Peter David that will create a song by song experience. David previously worked with Sanchez on the prose novel adaptation of the band’s 2010 album “Year of the Black Rainbow,” and the graphic novel adaptation of their 2003 album “In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 (which reached #4 on the New York Times Bestsellers list for graphic novels earlier this year).” All the band’s titles, including “The Afterman,” fall into a grand sci-fi story arc called ‘The Amory Wars.” It was announced previously at this month’s San Diego Comic Con that The Amory Wars has been picked up by Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson of Leverage Productions to be developed into a live-action feature film. Musically, ‘Afterman’ sees the band perfecting their powerhouse progressive rock, soul and even pop landscapes. The dual release also marks the return of original drummer Josh Eppard, who the band parted ways with in 2006, bringing with him his benchmark percussive grooves. Coheed and Cambria self-financed and co-produced ‘Afterman,’ alongside Michael Birnbaum and Chris Bittner, who produced the band’s first 3 albums, in Woodstock, NY. ‘Afterman’ was mixed by Rich Costey (Muse, The Shins, Foster the People) and Ryan Williams (30 Seconds To Mars). “This is without a doubt, the most honest record I’ve ever written,” says Sanchez. “Though all the songs can be interpreted through our main character in the story, they were initially written in a very spontaneous manner.” “In the past,” he continues,” I’ve always had a predetermined idea of what the story was going to be when I approached the songs. With ‘The Afterman’ being a new story within the (Amory Wars) arc, I allowed the events of my life to drive the concept, and therefore opened up the songwriting to a fuller degree.” Coheed and Cambria are currently on the road in North America with Iron Maiden. UPCOMING UK TOUR DATES: 24th August Reading Festival 25th August Leeds Festival 08th November London - Koko 09th November Glasgow - ABC 11th November Birmingham - Academy 12th November Manchester - Ritz Ballroom About The Amory Wars: An epic, sci-fi fantasy set in an alternate universe (Heaven’s Fence) that chronicles the rise of superhuman dictator Wilhelm Ryan, and the one family that could hold the key to liberating the world from his tyrannical reign. The mythology was originally created by Sanchez to serve as inspiration for the band’s albums, but the series expanded to other mediums, including both prose and graphic novels. About The Afterman: Sirius Amory, the most celebrated astronomer/scientist in the alternate universe of Heaven’s Fence is ‘‘The Afterman.’ Sirius (pronounced “Sy-ruhss”) is credited with the discovery of the energy force (known as The Keywork) that binds the 78 planets of these worlds together. He embarks on the greatest discovery of his existence, and possibly mankind’s. By doing so, what is truly most important to him begins to slip right through his hands.
