Efterklang Interview The new album is very instrumental; does the band have a passion for classical music perhaps more so over modern genres? As a band we love all types of instrumental music and we like to use a lot of different instruments when making our album. The classical range of bowed and brass have always been our favourites. We kind of see ourselves as ‘sound collectors’ using different sounds on our tracks. We usually develop the frame for the music and then everything else follows. How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard Efterklang at work? Well to put it in a cheeky one-liner; instrumental, indie pop. If your band could collaborate with any other band or musician who would it be and why? That’s a difficult one! Right now, as it changes every day, I would say Yellow Magic Orchestra who are a Japanese electro pop band. I think they would be a funny match. They’re fantastic. What was the first record you bought? The first record I bought was Nevermind by Nirvana. Who are you listening to at the moment? Yellow Magic Orchestra who I mentioned before, and also we’ve been playing quite a lot of music to each other recently and one band we’ve been listening to is a Canadian group called No Kicks. What is the most memorable show you have played? We once played in the Place de la Bastille in Paris, that was crazy and I don’t think we would ever forget that. There were so many people there; it was definitely an epic gig for us. Efterklang play the O2 Academy Liverpool on Sunday 7th November, 2010.
