Kristin Hersh WYATT AT THE COYOTE PALACE
Released: Omnibus Press, 28 October 2016

Kristin Hersh to release ‘Wyatt At The Coyote Palace’ double CD/book combination (UK Oct 28 / USA Nov 11)

One of indie rock’s most fascinating figures” - The Guardian

Hersh has no one left to surpass but herself… The world is jealous” - Pitchfork

Raw and revealing” - The New York Times

Kristin Hersh has announced that her forthcoming solo effort WYATT AT THE COYOTE PALACE, a double CD/ book combination, will be released by Omnibus Press in the UK and Australia on October 28, 2016 and in the USA on November 11, 2016.

h-42
It is the third release in the ground-breaking book-CD format that Hersh began with her previous solo album “Crooked” and Throwing Muses’ 2013 release “Purgatory/Paradise”.  Since sharing essays and tour diaries on her own website, she has published the critically acclaimed “Paradoxical Undressing” in the UK (released as “Rat Girl” in the USA), a children’s book “Toby Snax,” and “Don’t Suck, Don’t Die,” a personal account of her long friendship with the late Vic Chesnutt, which earned her rave reviews.

“Wyatt” includes true stories and songs of love and loss, combining Hersh’s humor with the pains and travails of a life spent constantly in motion. Defined by potent guitars, addictive melodies and poignant lyrics, this release is a serious sign of strength and depth, bringing the listener into what one critic described as Hersh’s “dark and dizzy world.”

Recorded in at her favorite studio in Portsmouth, RI, with engineer Steve Rizzo at the helm, Hersh performs and creates all instruments and sounds on this 24-track opus, including guitar, bass, drums, piano, horns, cello and even field recordings.  While the songs were written in the last 5 years over a turbulent period in her life, the prose was inspired by her autistic son Wyatt and his fascination with an abandoned apartment building inhabited by coyotes.  Wyatt often visited and even filmed the coyotes during the recording of the music, yet suddenly his intense fascination came to an end.

h-6
Hersh comments, “I had so loved his love of the place. Throwing Muses’ drummer, Dave - my best friend since third grade - decided that Wyatt needed to encapsulate his sense memories of the coyote palace, make the experience finite, like bottling a memory. Dave thinks we’ll see it again, and Wyatt’s love of the place will come back, when the images have been filtered through Wyatt’s intense and fascinating psychology.”

Since founding her influential art-punk band Throwing Muses at the age of 14 in Providence, Hersh has spent quality time confounding expectations and breaking rules - both hers and others. From life as the reluctant front person for the Muses to the solo career she launched in 1994, which she swore would never happen, to founding an ambitious and altruistic nonprofit and through to her recent foray into a surprisingly successful new career as an author, Hersh continues to push herself to the boundaries of her artistry and imagination. She founded the power trio 50FOOTWAVE in 2004 and has since released six mini-albums, including the ‘Bath White’ EP in summer of 2016.

In November, she will return to the UK and Ireland for a rare solo tour. “An Evening with Kristin Hersh” celebrates her endless creativity with readings and songs spanning her entire career. Kristin will also tour the USA starting in late November of 2016.

NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS PRESENT ANDREW DOMINIK’S NEW 3D B&W FEATURE FILM ONE MORE TIME WITH FEELING

CINEMA SCREENINGS ACROSS THE NORTH WEST ON SEPTEMBER 8TH

THE FEATURE FILM LAUNCHES NEW STUDIO ALBUM BY NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS SKELETON TREE RELEASED WORLDWIDE SEPTEMBER 9TH.

Feature film One More Time With Feeling will screen in cinemas for one night only on 8th September, launching the new Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds album Skeleton Tree.

c-18

The first opportunity anyone will have to hear any of the songs from the new Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds album, Skeleton Tree, will be to watch the feature film One More Time With Feeling, directed by Andrew Dominik (Chopper, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Killing Them Softly).

The film will be shown in 150 cinemas across the UK and Ireland (check listings below for your nearest participating cinemas) and more than 650 cinemas worldwide on 8th September 2016, immediately prior to the release of Skeleton Tree the following day.

Originally a performance based concept, One More Time With Feeling evolved into something much more significant as Dominik delved into the tragic backdrop of the writing and recording of the album. Interwoven throughout the Bad Seeds’ filmed performance of the new album are interviews and footage shot by Dominik, accompanied by Cave’s intermittent narration and improvised rumination.

c-51

Filmed in black-and-white and colour, in both 3D and 2D, the result is stark, fragile and raw.

Director Andrew Dominik (Chopper, The Assassination Of Jesse James), has issued the very first public statement about working with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds on new 3D black-and-white feature film One More Time With Feeling:

When Nick approached me about making a film around the recording and performing of the new Bad Seeds album, I’d been seeing quite a lot of him as we rallied around him and his family at the time of his son’s death. My immediate response was “Why do you want to do this?” Nick told me that he had some things he needed to say, but he didn’t know who to say them to. The idea of a traditional interview, he said, was simply unfeasible but that he felt a need to let the people who cared about his music understand the basic state of things. It seemed to me that he was trapped somewhere and just needed to do something – anything - to at least give the impression of forward movement.

c-25

I took the record away and listened to it trying to work out a way into the whole thing. In the end I agreed to do it if I could shoot it in black-and-white and 3D. Nick’s response was, “I fucking hate 3D” or something like that. I showed him old black and white photos viewed through a stereopticon from the 50s. I told him I wanted to make a film where these sorts of photos came slowly to life. I felt that the stark black-and-white and the haunted drama of these 3D images perfectly addressed the disembodied sound of the record and the weird sense of paralysis that Nick seemed to exist in at the time.

To achieve this effect we built a special camera, a massive, lumbering piece of equipment that’s almost comic lack of mobility added to the eerie drift of the film itself. No one has ever seen a 3D black-and-white non-animated feature film in modern times - for as far as I know, no such thing exists. It is both modern and from a distant age – much like the Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds’ new record, Skeleton Tree, actually.

c-71

Nick came to Los Angeles and watched the film. His response “to make sure they see it in 3D”. — Andrew Dominik was obviously conflicted. How could it not be? In the end he said, “leave it as it is” – which we did. He said that it was obviously “made with love” – which it was and finally,

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds’ sixteenth studio album, Skeleton Tree, will be released globally on vinyl, CD and across all digital platforms on 9th September 2016. The album began its journey in late 2014 at Retreat Studios, Brighton, with further sessions at La Frette Studios, France in autumn 2015. The album was mixed at AIR Studios, London in early 2016.

Manhaton Records is pleased to announce the debut album A FORCE OF NATURE from one of the most exciting Blues rock singers, Sari Schorr.  Released in the UK and Europe on September 2nd 2016, the album is produced by the legendary Mike Vernon whose credits include Fleetwood Mac, John Mayall & the Blues Breakers, David Bowie, Savoy Brown, Chicken Shack, Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Christine McVie and Ten Years After.

In January 2015, Mike received a Keeping the Blues Alive award at the prestigious International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. The award was not the only highlight of the weekend for Mike. The second highlight occurred when Mike witnessed the performance of one of the most amazing female blues singers he’d seen in years – SARI SCHORR.

Mike was so knocked out, he came out of semi-retirement to produce her new album.  Already a consummate songwriter in her own right, with tracks on major labels, Sari has written or co-written almost all the songs on the debut album.  Released by Manhaton Records (home of Robin Trower and King King) the new album features guitarists Walter Trout (John Mayall, Canned Heat), Innes Sibun (Robert Plant), Oli Brown (RavenEye) and keyboardist John Baggott (Massive Attack, Portishead).

New York-based Sari Schorr initially gained prominence throughout the blues world after several years of touring the US and Europe with Blues legend, Joe Louis Walker and renowned guitarist, Popa Chubby.  Schorr was recently inducted into the New York Blues Hall of Fame.

Sari has appeared on the Conan O’Brian Show, and has toured extensively throughout the US, Europe, Asia and Australia.  She has received critical acclaim for her blustery vocals and emotionally-charged performances, and is described by many blues pundits as a modern-day hybrid of Janis Joplin and Tina Turner - a red-hot blues mama who radiates emotional intensity, connects with and inspires her audiences, and leaves a lasting impression that’s larger than life.

Sari’s new band, The Engine Room, features stunning British guitarist Innes Sibun (former Robert Planet guitarist). “The Engine Room truly is a remarkable band,” says Sari.  “Something magical happens when we’re on stage together.  We’re fuelled further by the audiences’ reaction and everything’s possible. I love touring and enjoy the privilege of meeting so many like-minded people who share our love of the Blues.”

The album delivers hard-driving Blues-Rock, influenced by the late ’60s British Blues movement.  Sari (who trained as an opera singer) mixes Blues, Rock, and Soul with concrete melodies and poetic lyrics to striking effect.  Says Sari, “I set out to write achingly honest songs about the beauty and the tragedy of the human experience.  I hope my music can be a galvanizing force to inspire, repair and unite people.  I try not to allow constraints on my writing or my performance of the songs.  Most often, I manage to trust my intuition and honestly, Mike Vernon brings out the best in the artists he works with.”

My songs are rooted in the blues and honouring that long tradition is important to me,” reflects Sari.  “My song-writing draws heavily on contrasting melodic hooks with aching harmonies.  I spend a lot of time working over and rewriting my lyrics.  I rely heavily on imagery and enjoy using double-entendres that are entertaining to those who catch them.  My influences are many and various and include Son House, Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Lead Belly, Bessie Smith, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Freddie King, Robert Johnson, B.B. King, Peter Green, Robert Plant, Martha Velez and Bob Dylan.”

The album was written in four countries: US, UK, Spain, and Germany. Basic tracks were recorded in London and Seville.  I’m grateful to have such amazing musicians on the album, who gave so generously of their time and talents.  The album features the guitar mastery of Innes Sibun, Walter Trout and Oli Brown and stellar keyboard work by John Baggott.”

Sari mixes a passion for music and with a duty of social responsibility. She has devoted her talent and energy to music projects of a grand scale for humanitarian causes. Most notable is her work on a “Toast to Freedom” for Amnesty International, where she collaborated with many musical legends including Warren Haynes, Levon Helm, Keb Mo’, Taj Mahal, Eric Burdon and Carly Simon. Sari’s humanitarian efforts include work in Haiti and India. She founded “Matters” – a non-profit that draws attention to humanitarian causes through the arts.
