Shakespears Sister Live The backdrop then disappeared and in its place arrived a black curtain and with this a song called ‘Black Sky’ with Fahey explaining “We have to go back to the dark side.” Then the moment I had been waiting for arrived. Lights dimmed with Detroit taking performance centre stage for her rendition of ‘Stay’. Suddenly clarity of sound arrived, gone was the unwelcome muddiness, and the song and its performance was nothing less than magical. Detroit hit the falsetto passages with perfection, her delivery was pure emotion. The bouncing ‘I Don’t Care’ was followed by the ominous ‘You’re History’ and the unrelenting demand for an encore. The ethereal and super-pop ‘Hello (Turn Your Radio On)’ closed a fabulous show. As Fahey declared “After 26 years there’s still the magic.” This was indeed a special show spoiled slightly by the inadequate sound management. While ‘Stay’ was the major highlight of the show I discovered several other songs from the ladies that represented top level pop quality. So not only superbly entertaining but a great voyage of discovery… Setlist Goodbye Cruel World Encore: Catwoman Tour Friday, 15 November 2019.
