Snow Patrol THE TRIP. Family Recordings

This is the fifth instalment of The Trip (a series of DJ sessions compiled by selected artists and acts) and comes fresh from the rather substantial record bag of Gary Lightbody, lead vocalist and guitarist of Snow Patrol.

Snow Patrol has enjoyed the most successful year of its career, with the multi-platinum FINAL STRAW album becoming one of the most popular albums of 2004. They’ve had a top five single with Run, and Chocolate has been one of the biggest airplay hits of the year. On stage, the band wowed the crowds at Glastonbury, Isle of Wight and T In The Park; they’ve toured the USA twice and also been around Europe, Australia and Japan to huge critical acclaim.

Lightbody and the band have created a reputation for some ferocious after-show DJ sessions – and when he heard the Tom Middleton Trip album of the series earlier this year he was inspired to have a crack at a ‘Trip’ of his own. The result is surprising, to say the least…

Disc 1:

Low & Spring Heel Jack – Way Behind

Emperor Machine – Expanding In Reproduction

Sir Drew – My Sex

Machines – Everywhere

TV On The Radio – Staring At The Sun

Dark Room Dubs – Submergible

The Knife – Heartbeats (Rex The Dog Mix)

Four Tet – Everything Is All right

Alan Braxe / Fred Falke – Love Lost

Kojak – You Can’t Stop It

Smith n Hack – To Our Disco Friends

Seelenluft (feat. Jim Reid) – I Can See Clearly Now

Secret Machines – Road Leads Where It’s Led

Mylo – Drop The Pressure

Jacknife Lee – Fear Of Nothing

Sex In Dallas – Everybody Deserves To Be Fucked (Tomcats in Tokyo Mix)

Feist – Shaboom

Disc 2:

The Shins – Weird Divide

Cocorosie – By Your Side

Husky Rescue – Rainbow Flows

Bill Withers – When I’m Kissing My Love

Hot Chip – Take Care

The Fiery Furnaces – Bow Wow

Deerhoof – Milking

The Duke Spirit – Cuts Across The Land

Rilo Kiley – With Arms Outstretched

Joy Zipper – Christmas Song

Republic of Loose – Girl I’m Gonna Fuck You Up

Harco Pront – Sleaze

Mum – Green Grass Of Tunnel

Iain Archer – Does This Have A Name

Nina Nastasia - Superstar

For a leadman who tends to wear his musical heart on his sleeve, this selection for the most part is pure dance fun and pop frivolity, with heartfelt emotion taking a very minor bit-part role. It begs the question, ‘Who is Gary Lightbody?’
