Miki Huber FLUTTER

Miki Huber FLUTTER

It’s always great to hear from artists who possess the conviction, passion and confidence to make direct contact with the media. It’s also a pleasant change not to hear from the myriad of third parties ‘protecting’ and promoting the interests of the artists they are paid to represent.

Miki Huber is a new, young singer/songwriter whose debut album is due for release in coming months. This special pre-release edition, in its modest picture card sleeve, provides strong evidence of an emerging talent; a tad rough at the edges vocally; whose songs possess beguiling melodies and a distinctive sound.

The opening song, New Haven, bounces gently along with the most basic of piano accompaniment, and a sweet voice that occasionally sounds a little flat. The song is contemplative while bristling with decent lyrics and a very strong melody. It’s a good start. Shallow Water is next up and boasts a far better produced instrumental backdrop and shadowy backing vocals. The vibe is darker while Huber manages to match her voice to the songs message and ambience. The track also exhibits a high degree of originality and distinction. Huber is a natural talent and this comes through loud and clear in the next slowly wandering, string-laden track Heaven. The originality continues with Cat In A Hat with fragments of brass piercing air in the background riding atop a song of jagged, stuttered pace.

The overall impression here is one of a highly creative artist who still needs to hone her vocal skills. The CD sounds more like a demo recording, albeit an interesting folk/pop one.
