Jurassic 5 FEEDBACK. Interscope

Jurrasic 5 return with their fourth studio album, FEEDBACK. Four years on from POWER IN NUMBERS. Older and Wiser? What! No Cut Chemist? Can they pull it off?

Everybody’s four favourite MCs Akil, Charli 2na, Mark 7 and Soup return with a solid performance, trademark positive lyrical content and slick delivery. Small wonder these boys are regarded as being amongst the best in the business.

But I was apprehensive about this one, having always found the Cut Chemist tracks to be the strongest on Jurassic 5’s past works. But DJ Nu-Mark has put a new twist to the production. With tracks like ‘Red Hot’, a bouncing number I expect to be hearing in clubs for a good few years to come. ‘Work It Out’ is a more soulful take on the J5 sound featuring The Dave Matthews Band. My personal favourite ‘In The House’ is a salute to old school hip-hop. This album stands proud on its own two feet, if not your typical J5 material.

The previous J5 albums were extremely diverse, with the individual styles of NuMark and Cut Chemist pushing tracks in differing directions. Although FEEDBACK does not have the same cutting edge as the J5LP, released way back almost a decade ago. The absence of Cut Chemist has had its benefits; a more uniform sound has been created by NuMark. J5 are still head and shoulders above the competition.
