Finn Brothers EVERYONE IS HERE. EMI It’s good to see Neil Finn back again, this time with his brother. This new album is right up there with Finn’s best work.
As you would expect, the music is as melodic as hell with gorgeous harmonies and catchy choruses. But I also sense that lyrically, the Finns have reached new heights. Opening song Won’t Give In opens with a pleasant guitar riff before the lads give their vocal contribution in a love song that could fly up the charts. Next track Nothing Wrong With You has a more melancholy, haunting vibe, and with that trade mark melody is a superb slice of pop introspection. Lyrically, it also shines with lines like, “You just keep on walking when they call you dirty names…voices in your head carry on the tune…let the sounds come in from the world outside… all the dirt in this world sticks on you…” Highlights come thick and fast, but the upbeat All God’s Children and the string-soaked, moving, edgy beauty of Edible Flowers top the bill for me. For fans of Crowded House and the Finn brothers this is nothing short of a musical treat. 4/5
