This special outdoor Ian Brown show in Manchester is the first night in a special weekend of shows marking the 100th anniversary of the Park. Details of a second, Saturday show will be announced imminently. Brown’s career is the story of a generation - from the initial teenage thrill of punk, the mish-mash of mid-Eighties culture, mods, scooter boys, skins and punks, Creation Records, paisley shirt psychedelia. Drifting in and out of bands, cheap drugs, wild nights, pretty girls, great records, and then finally a band that everyone would soon call their own and a band that still means so much to so many people. Since the break up of the Stone Roses in 1996, Ian Brown has released no less than six, critically acclaimed solo albums and enjoyed 14 UK top 40 singles. He has sold out six UK tours, and appeared three times at Glastonbury including headlining The Other Stage in 2005. In 2006 Brown was honoured as NME magazine’s ‘God Like Genius’ at their annual awards bash. Brown has never compromised his vision, he has made pop on his own terms and never by the rules. His lack of muso knowledge is his strength. This is pure, instinctive music that follows its own nose. Unconventional and yet accessible, it’s a cool trick to pull off. “I’m mad excited to be playing at Platt Fields. As a kid my dad used to take me to Manchester Carnival there. Bring your dancing shoes!” commented Ian today. UNKLE is the British dance outfit founded in 1994 by school friends James Lavelle and Tim Goldsworthy. Originally categorized as trip-hop, the group once included producer DJ Shadow and has employed a variety of guest artists and producers. In January 2008 UNKLE released the album ‘More Stories’, which contained a mix of B-sides, remixes, unreleased session tracks from the War Stories album and music composed for the film Odyssey In Rome. In March 2008, the Lazarides Gallery in London showcased War Paint, an exhibition of artworks inspired by the recent UNKLE album War Stories, with works from Robert Del Naja, Warren du Preez, Nick Thornton Jones, Will Bankhead and Ben Drury. Bad Lieutenant is an English alternative rock band formed in 2007and features former New Order lead singer Bernard Sumner and guitarist Phil Cunningham, along with Jake Evans of Rambo and Leroy. Stephen Morris, New Order’s former drummer, guests on a number of tracks, as does Blur bassist, Alex James. The Whip is a band whose founding members come from Oldham, Greater Manchester, UK formed in 2006. The band’s debut album, “X Marks Destination”, produced by Jim Abbiss, was released on Southern Fried Records on March 24, 2008. They have released several singles on record labels such as the uber cool French collective Kitsuné. The band’s tracks “Trash” and “Divebomb” were featured on the Kitsune Maison Compilations 3 and 4 respectively. They have also been commissioned to do remixes for bands such as Editors, Hadouken! and The Courteeners track “Fallowfield Hillbilly”.
