Rival Sons
Liverpool O2 Academy, 25 January 2017

The Band

Jay Buchanan – lead vocals, harmonic
Scott Holiday – guitar, backing vocals
Mike Miley – drums
Dave Beste – bass guitar, backing vocals

We’ve wanted to cover this band for years. When the opportunity arose to cover them in Manchester University’s prime venue we grabbed it. With a setlist featuring the best songs from all the band’s albums (including the latest 2016 opus HOLLOW BONES) fans provided ethusiastic backing vocals!

Thus was a polished performance with obvious Led Zep inluences. Buchanan’s vocals were blisteringly good while Holiday’s guitar work was superb. Every good rock band needs a powerful rhythm section and Mike Miley on drums provided just that. The performance revealed something which I had not appreciated before and that was the band’s strong melodic heart. This together with the band’s ability to connect solidly with its audience transformed a great show to a truly classic one.
