Bloc Party: Bloctober Live Bloc Party are an English indie rock band, composed of Kele Okereke (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Russell Lissack (lead guitar), Gordon Moakes (bass guitar, synths, backing vocals, glockenspiel), and Matt Tong (drums, backing vocals). I’m here in Liverpool tonight to witness the band back in the venue where I first saw them on an ‘NME’ tour a few years back with the Killers, they were just breaking that incredible debut album back then and were something special, they were the band that year most likely to change things… So a few albums (and remix albums) later, I’m waiting for them to floor me, and they do just that, opening with a swathe of light and basking in all their dimensional indie dance glory they straddle the stage like conquering heroes returning to reclaim their crown, they are in fact tonight the band they always threatened to be, the combination of sounds and visions are melting into one, becoming a unit of both equal in all measure… They have become the ground between radiohead and pendulum, they are the cool band that you can like, love, dance and fuck to… The band that make you want to laugh, cry, sing and dance, get off your head, drive fast and they are making this whole room feel alive… and the songs… Well they pace the set well, they come on strong with huge beats, before immersing themselves in deep grooves and ‘Mercury’ is the first genuine highlight of the night, before pulling back to move forward, Kele is listening to what the crowd says to him, he joins them, he becomes the audience, he smiles, he poses, but importantly he sings, he delivers, he allows his room mates to do what they do best, and credit to Matt for his drumming, so precise, and such a difficult sound to create… It’s only when you hear all their songs from each chapter together do bloc party make sense, for you get that feeling of knowing where you come from to know where your going, tonight in Liverpool the band showed no sign of emotional or musical distance, just desire to keep the feeling as long as they can, they may produce studio wonder, but it’s here on stage where their true magic appears… Page: 1 2 |
