The Hollywood Ending Interview

Ben Murphy (guitar) and Adam Watson (bass) answered our questions.

So how you guys doing?

Good man, not too bad.

How’s the tour going?

It’s going good up to now, we are finally half-way through the tour, and we’ve met a lot of cool people and all the bands have been cool….

What is it like being with Fightstar? And how have the audiences been?

It’s interesting, we don’t really see them all that often, but they are really nice guys. The crowd can be a little varied, like you say we get a lot of Busted fans on the tour, but there are a lot of genuine rockers too. I reckon we get an even mix.

Tell me a little bit about your background.

We got together late in 2002 and are from Rochdale near Manchester. The music we play is like nothing we listen to, but we have a lot of different influences which I don’t think come across in the music. I got in a band because I love making music, and I love Green Day, and that was the reason I stated playing guitar.

The debut album PRAYING TO FICTION is out soon on Mighty Atom Records. What kind of record is it compared to last EP, and what are you trying to do with it?

Pretty much it’s just turned out as it was, we don’t try and consciously write things, they just come out. It’s crazy, we just write songs and if they sound good we keep them. It’s how it always happens; we never really sit down and say ‘this is what we want.’ But lyrically they are about different things. I mean previously we all had so many different ideas, normally it’ll just be like I’ll play a guitar riff and he’ll be like, “yeah that’s cool, keep playing” and then he’ll add some vocals or something or a bass, and it’s great.

Do you guys have any hobbies outside the band?

Football and PS2, we all love Pro Evo 4 - can’t go wrong with a bit of that.

So what’s been your biggest gig to date?

Probably the Pitchshifter and Sikth gigs. We played the Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton and the building was packed to the rafters with about 1200 people. That was well scary, but it was definitely our best gig, yeah definitely…

Finally, what are your plans for the rest of the year?

Definitely another video, and then I think we are going to sit down and write some more tunes. We are doing one more song of the album, the last track, and then that’s going to be it for this album. I think we are going to write some more songs and hopefully record another album later this year, but we might have a few more gigs lined up as well. I really want to play Reading and they are up for America, but that’s quite a way off…
