The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, K Klass, The Charlatans, A Guy called Gerald, 808 State, Laurent Garnier, and Jon DaSilva all performed in Chester during that time at parties and gigs organised by members of the team behind the Laugh Inn. The links are still there and still as strong… after all – take the Man out of Manchester and you are left with Chester! Chester always had a vibrant and diverse club culture and it still has – this first Hacienda Chester will show it at it’s best! The night will be a musical mix of classics and new tunes from House to Hip Hop, Funk to Techno, Electronica to anthems over two great rooms, with three bars and a dance floor, with a stage DJ box and balcony area in the main room that is eerily reminiscent of the Hacienda. This will be a chance for those who weren’t there to get a taste of what the best club in the world was like – and for those who were there at the time to recall the best nights of their lives! http://www.shakenstir.co.uk/index.php/features/the-hacienda-must-be-built/features/25106/ 11pm - 1am: Brand New: The hottest news, views and interviews from the music world, joining us live will be ‘All The Young’ fresh from their gig in the area, they will be having a chat, spinning some tunes and playing live…

Donna Summer & The Four Tops Special LaDonna Adrian Gaines (born December 31, 1948), known by her stage name, Donna Summer, is an American singer/songwriter who gained prominence during the disco era of the 1970s. Summer is a five time Grammy winner and was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach number one on the US Billboard chart. She also charted four number-one singles in the US within a thirteen-month period and has sold and estimated 130 million albums and singles worldwide. The Four Tops (often billed by Motown as ‘Four Tops’) are an American vocal quartet, whose repertoire has included doo-wop, jazz, soul music, R&B, disco, adult contemporary, hard rock, and showtunes. Founded in Detroit, Michigan as The Four Aims, lead singer Levi Stubbs (born Levi Stubbles, a cousin of Jackie Wilson and brother of The Falcons’ Joe Stubbs), and groupmates Abdul “Duke” Fakir, Renaldo “Obie” Benson and Lawrence Payton remained together for over four decades, having gone from 1953 until 1997 without a single change in personnel. Among a number of groups who helped define the Motown Sound of the 1960s, including The Miracles, The Marvelettes, Martha and the Vandellas, The Temptations, and The Supremes, the Four Tops were notable for having Stubbs, a baritone, as their lead singer; most groups of the time were fronted by a tenor. The group was the main male vocal group for the songwriting and production team of Holland-Dozier-Holland, who crafted a stream of hit singles, including two Billboard Hot 100 number-one hits: “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)” and “Reach Out I’ll Be There”. The album title is a way of counter-broadcasting these themes in the form of an expansive and dynamic album,” Rubin says of his sophomore album, which he wrote, played, sang all parts, and recorded with his brother and manager Aaron Rubin. Based upon the ancient Greek myth of the poet Orpheus and his doomed quest to rescue his wife Eurydice from the underworld, Hadestown evokes an American depression-era past, the global financial troubles leading into 2010 (though it was written before the stock market collapse), and a post-apocalyptic future. Anaïs, who sings the part of Eurydice, the character whose (metaphoric) death propels Orpheus into “Hadestown” is joined by a veritable Who’s Who of modern indie folk and rock on the release. Justin Vernon of Bon Iver plays Orpheus; Greg Brown is Hades, Lord of the Underworld (”king of the kingdom of dirt”); Ani DiFranco plays Hades’ strong-willed, subversive wife, Persephone; the Haden Triplets (Petra, Rachel, and Tanya) are the Greek chorus-like Fates and Ben Knox Miller of The Low Anthem is the messenger Hermes. Together, they create a world where people hide behind walls in a misguided attempt to preserve their “freedom” and protect their riches. 16 February 2011 Artists included were: Icehouse - Gr8 southern land, Roxy Music - Dance away, The Alarm - Pressence of love, Justin Rutledge - Be a man, Prince - Sign of the times, Ocean Colour Scene - Day we caught the train, Vega 4 - Sing, Counting Crowes - Mr jones, The Wallflowers - One headlight, The Trews - So she’s leaving, Jesse Marlin - Brooklyn, Gordon Lightfoot - Sundown, Diamond Head - In the heat of the night, Jeff Buckley - I know it’s over 11pm-midnight REGINA SPEKTOR LIVE IN LONDON: February 2011 11pm-midnight: 3 Ladies You Won’t Hear On Radio 1… & Brand New Albums Abigail Washburn CITY OF REFUGE - Prelude/City Of Refuge Abigail Washburn - Chains Abigail Washburn - Last Train Abigail Washburn - Burn Thru Abigail Washburn - Corner Girl
