Passport Approved! Worldwide ** Check These Amazing ‘Undiscovered’ artists… ARTIST: Rubylux Rubylux is one of the most talented new acts to emerge from the UK in quite some time. Their trans-Atlantic sound has been described by some music pundits as a melding of Coldplay, Snow Patrol and Thirteen Senses meets Robbie Williams. The band has recorded its debut album with talented producer James Sanger, who has worked with acts as diverse as Keane, U2, Cassius, Dido, Faithless and many others. Rubylux’s music has spread worldwide thanks to it appearing on TV shows such as Heroes, Neighbours and other adverts across the globe. They now have a song in the running for a major synch with a new movie (Chalet Girl) currently in production and starring Bill Nighy. The debut album, Fake Control, was mixed by talented UK producer/mixer Ash Howes and mastered by Dick Beetham. US tastemaker radio has Rubylux on their radar already, as “The Boy Could Fly” has already been played on such leaders as WRXP New York, WEND Charlotte, KTCL Denver, KNRK Portland and many others. ARTIST: A Million Years A Million Years is a Brooklyn-based four piece who are making music for your grey matter. Stimulated by the intellectualism and sonic experimentation of bands such as Radiohead, Spoon and Wilco, they strive to create a world of smart, brooding characters wandering around in our digitalized soundscape. Their debut full-length album, Mischief Maker, was just released and produced by Shannon Ferguson, best known as a member of Longwave. The album touches on sonic elements found in electronic music, using drum machines alongside real drums and synths alongside the guitars and bass, to create a sound that is dense but also feels organic. Formed in 2007, A Million Years began as a sort of revolving door with an ever changing list of band members hashing out the songs born in lead singer Keith Madden’s bedroom. Andrew Samaha (bass/vocal), Andrew Vanette (drums/vocals) and Nick Werber (guitar/vocals) later joined to create a collective of passionate, music-obsessed workaholics. During his stint as a touring guitarist in both Pin Me Down with Russell Lissack of Bloc Party and Longwave, Madden was introduced to Ferguson who also produced the band’s first EP, Incandescent, in 2009. A Million Years has toured extensively throughout the east coast and received airplay support from WRXP New York, WEQX Manchester, VT and WKZQ Myrtle Beach, SC. ARTIST: John Snow Some artists have dreams of performing in stadiums filled with thousands of fans…but most artists aren’t John Snow. Formed at a Prague McDonald’s in the summer of 2008 but hailing from Norway, at first the group’s main goal was performing live in their hometown. As the band continued to write and practice, their goals went from being locally recognized to signing a management deal and recording a self-titled EP. The EP project was overseen by Tre Sheppard, who has written with Tommy Sims (Bruce Springsteen), Graham Kendrick, Kathryn Scott and Nathan Dantzler and is well known in the UK for his unique blend of faith, hope and rock & roll. “The journey to finding the right songs for the EP seemed to be one that was a little longer and more difficult for some reason,” explains drummer Christer Gundersen. We wanted to make an important debut EP, Petter Tørdal emphasizes. “You get the sense that maybe something really big is going to happen soon, that maybe the way we enjoy things isn’t always going to be that way. We had that in mind as we wrote songs such as ‘Good Enough For Me’ and ‘Supersonic’; we want to write songs that are up to date, no matter how things are going.” As A-ha, perhaps Norway’s finest musical export, call it a day, new blood is emerging and can be heard in “Supersonic.” John Snow is currently available for signing, licensing and booking in multiple territories worldwide. ARTIST: Tara Simmons Brisbane, Australia has always been a breeding ground for raising musical talent; examples include Powderfinger, Yves Klein Blue, Dead Letter Circus, Hungry Kids of Hungary, I Heart Hiroshima and that list will soon include 26-year-old Tara Simmons. Showing musical promise from a very early age, she began to play piano at the age of three, the cello by the age of eight and dabbling in songwriting along the way. Best known for her use of bedroom, bathroom and kitchen items to sample extra sounds for her recordings, she began recording her self-financed, self-produced seven-track debut EP, Pendulum in 2005. Before releasing it to the public she had second thoughts, thinking it wasn’t good enough. She eventually sent a copy to DJ Caroline Tran at Triple J radio (Australia) who gravitated towards “Everybody Likes You” and played it a number of times. The song went on to be a finalist at the Q Song Awards in 2006 and selected as a feature song for the station during Oz Music Month. Her follow-up EP, All The Amendments, had another track supported by Triple J with “The Recycling Bin Song.” The following year, Timmons took all the tracks from both EPs and had them re-mastered and repackaged onto a single disc called EPilation. In February of 2009 she unveiled her debut album, Spilt Milk and nine months later, followed it up with another EP, All You Can. This five-track release received support from Triple J and positive reviews from press and fans alike. ARTIST: Penguin Prison Chris Glover, better known under the stage name Penguin Prison, is a New York City electro-pop wonder. His music has been featured throughout the blog-o-sphere in the last year, even being one of the top artists on The Hype Machine site. His music is completely counter-cultural and brilliantly regressive as it races back to the ’80s heyday of disco and pop. Penguin Prison has been compared to Hot Chip and deservedly so, as you can hear in the first official single “Animal Animal/Funny Thing” on Neon Gold records, released last November. The second single release “The Worse It Gets/Something I’m Not” came out in March and has spawned hundreds of remixes online. PP is no stranger to remixes either, as he has worked his magic on tracks from Ellie Goulding, Erik Hassle, Goldfrapp and Marina & The Diamonds. The Penguin Prison live show is one to catch as well, where Glover is joined by his band consisting of Conrad Stern-Ascher (synthesizers & electric piano), Steve Solomon (bass) and Ernesto Karolys (drums). If you are in the New York City area at the end of July, PP is performing at Coco 66 in Brooklyn on July 30. ARTIST: Pocket Satellite Pocket Satellite was born after a chance meeting at an open mic night, over a hot chocolate, on a quiet Thursday evening in Sheffield. With five members from four cities, playing 15 different instruments, they put everything together to birth the Toy Train EP, inspired by their discovery of an antique glockenspiel. With new music to share with their fans, they supported Jenny Owen Youngs at Monto Water Rats, played as main support at The Plug and have played for Drowned in Sound at The Harley in Sheffield. Pocket Satellite have been introduced by Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music and performed a live session with Iain Hodgson on BBC Radio Sheffield’s Raw Talent Show. The summer itinerary for the five-piece consists of being on the road, with their schedules booked now through August in the UK. Musically, their influences range from Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service to The Shins and Guster. Positive praise for the outfit includes a review from The Sheffield Phonographic Corporation, which stated “The whole EP is a lovely mix of folky indie-pop, gently reminiscent of Monkey Swallows the Universe and Slow Club at their most winsome.” ARTIST: Daniel Rata Born and raised in New Zealand before moving to Perth, Australia, Daniel Rata was determined to pursue his musical dream. With a lifelong love of music and cultural Maori background, Rata clearly saw his future as a musical artist and quickly established a strong reputation working Perth’s up-market bars, clubs and music venues. Though not formally trained, he is a unique and very gifted musician who has a strong feeling and superbly rich and warm vocal tone. Perhaps due to his cultural roots and a deep personal appreciation for a variety of musical styles, his music is free of conformity. Rata is left-handed, but taught himself to play a right-handed guitar by turning it upside down. This particular approach to his playing gives his chord progressions an original and unique harmonic flavor. His self-funded and independently released debut album, Suspended In Time, won both critical acclaim and strong sales in Australia and was played on a variety of radio outlets. Following the release of the album, Rata took some time off to reflect on how he had developed as a songwriter and live performer and this gave him the confidence and belief that he could start writing tracks for his second album. In late 2008, he began collaborating with UK producer John Ravenall, best known for his work with legendary artists including Elton John, Sting, Kool and the Gang and Sir Paul McCartney. At the end of last year, Rata traveled to Chicago to put the finishing touches on the sophomore effort, which included being able to record with the Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra. Having fine tuned his artistic direction and recorded what he believes to be his breakthrough album, Rata is now keen to reach out and perform to international markets. ARTIST: Skybombers Based in Melbourne and raised on a healthy dose of British and American music, the Skybombers formed while they were still in high school. Starting as a five-piece consisting of Hugh Gurney (vocals/guitar), Ravi Sharma (bass), Scott McMurtie (drums), Sam Bethune (guitar/vocals) and Will Brown (bass/vocals), they created a five-song demo called Sirens. This demo was intended to share between friends and fans at one of their early gigs, but found its way to Albert Productions, the very same label behind such classic Australian bands as Thorpe & the Aztecs, the Easybeats and AC/DC. Alberts were quick to sign the band and sent them to LA to record their first album, Take Me to Town. The experience was a whirlwind as their single “It Goes Off” was added into official rotation on the then-influential radio station Indie 103.1 Los Angeles. Their music was also licensed by EA Games and featured in two of their biggest titles. They performed up and down the infamous Sunset Strip, blowing the roof off of the Roxy and Viper Room venues way before they were even old enough to legally drink. To add to their accomplishments, they also had the opportunity to support X and Foo Fighters on tour in Australia. Last year saw the departure of Ravi Sharma, but that didn’t stop the guys from marching forward. With youth and energy on their side, they are now ready to release a new album that is sure to please fans all across the world. ARTIST: Suddyn With undeniable praise from artists like Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who referred to this band as “Epic,” and NME which makes reference to the band as “Think Killers meet Foos…worthy of the hype,” Suddyn has most certainly earned some well- deserved respect. Brothers Alan and Jarrett Steil from Montauk, NY and Irish-born drummer Brendan Connolly were put in touch with Grammy Award-winning producer David Kahne (Paul McCartney, Sublime and The Strokes) after a gig at a popular Surf Lodge last summer. Kahne invited the trio to his private studio in Manhattan to record a three-song demo, which included “Brighter Star.” Suddyn first struck gold in Ireland with the single “Drowning Souls,” a Top-10 hit for two weeks on the Irish charts, and seemingly overnight, the band was one of Ireland’s best-selling unsigned acts. But breaking through in America is a much more difficult task, according to Jarrett Steil, the lead guitarist. “Fifteen years ago, if we said we worked with David Kahne, we’d be getting phone calls,” he said. “Now we’re still beating on the door, but at least we get somebody to open the door.” Suddyn recently released their latest EP, Before the City, and continue to perform to support the new music with upcoming scheduled stops in Washington, DC, New Jersey and New York. Not since The Vines, Jet’s and Wolfmother’s debut albums has the new school of Australian rock and roll translated globally; however, that looks to change soon with the introduction of a little known but very talented Melbourne-based four-piece known as Redcoats. The four-piece consisting of Emilio Mercuri (vocals), Rhys Kelly (bass), Andrew Braidner (drums) and Neil Wilkinson (guitars) deliver a blend of vintage sounds infused with untamed riffs of desert rock, which has seen them garner some early praise and support in their home country. Australia’s leading national music tastemaker Richard Kingsmill, Music Director, Triple J Australia has been the first to identify the band’s potential after taking a listen to their Fearly unreleased recordings, tweeting them as a band to watch out for. In addition, the unsigned band’s video for the same song has just been supported for three weeks consecutively on ABC RAGE (a national music video clip show in Australia) and the band has also secured the licensing of another unreleased song, “Dreamshaker”, for the launch of the new Australian “Iron Man” series on Australia’s leading Sport channel One HD. Not surprisingly, Redcoats manager Sophia Liddy (and Dylan Liddy) from Blue Max Music has already been approached to consider a major label Australian/NZ deal for the act. As well as this interest Down Under, Redcoat’s home-made “Giants” clip is generating the attention of a number of international labels from the US and UK, as well as publishers and booking agents. Redcoats performed at the One Movement for Music festival in Perth (October 6 – 10) where numerous A&R, publishing and booking agents are seeing the band at their first international festival performance. The four-piece has been working with A&R veteran Jeff Blue (Linkin Park, Macy Gray) and Juno Award-winning producer Brandon Friesen (Nickelback, Finger Eleven) on new recordings in Hollywood. Euphoria Audio has been building a strong credible buzz on the independent UK rock circuit, including support on BBC Introducing with Tom Robinson. Euphoria Audio has been described as one of the best new rock exports to emerge out of the UK since Black Sabbath, Def Leppard, Bush and other successful exports. The quartet is managed by Leeds, England-based talent spotter and manager Erika Lee and has been garnering early support from A&R Worldwide.
