The Von Bondies PAWN SHOPPE HEART. Reprise/Sire I recently had the pleasure of seeing The Von Bondies play live during the NME Awards Tour concert in Liverpool where they almost stole the show. Performing their own distinctive take on garage, punk and soul Jason Stollsteimer (vocal, guitar), Marcie Bolen (guitar, vocals), Carrie Smith (bass, vocals) and Don Blum (drums) rocked the audience into submission. I couldn’t wait to hear their new album… Read more

Sergeant Buzfuz FIRE HORSE. Audio Gland With a crazy name, the oddest cover artwork (although it’s yet to be finalised), and minimalist sleeve notes one would be forgiven for dismissing this album or putting it on the ‘listen when drunk’ pile. Snow Patrol FINAL STRAW. Polydor I have seen this excellent band perform on two occasions in front of adoring crowds at the Witnness Festival in Dublin. Fonda 500 SPECTRUMATRONICALOGICAL SOUNDS. Gentle Electric Very seldom does a record come along which floors me. This did. The album contains no less than 30 tracks lasting a total of 72 minutes, gently cavorts through several musical genres, possesses some of the most delicate electronic sounds, and is so strong on melody it hurts. In short, it’s wonderful. Read more
Auf Der Maur AUF DER MAUR. EMI Following an ‘intense’ five years playing bass with Courtney Love’s band Hole, and twelve months on the Smashing Pumpkins farewell tour, Canadian Melissa Auf der Maur is launching out on her own. 2004 is already turning out to be quite an interesting release year with strong albums from David Kitt and Woodstar already done and dusted. This album continues to up the stakes. Read more
